The minimum consumer basket in May required 656.50 euros

How to calculate the value of the minimum consumer basket

The minimum consumer basket refers to household consumption that includes food and non-food products and services, which enables the maintenance of life and work ability of household members, in accordance with the minimum recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the 2010 United States Department of Agriculture Nutrition Manual. (USA Food Guide 2010) on the minimum value of caloric food intake in the amount of 2211 Kcal, per day, per person.

The value of the minimum consumer basket is based on data from the Household Budget Survey and World Bank recommendations.

The value of the minimum consumer basket for a four-member household consists of the minimum monthly expenditures related to food and non-alcoholic beverages and non-food products and services. Average prices in the current month and monthly quantities in kilograms for a four-member household are used to calculate the minimum expenditure related to food and non-alcoholic beverages. Consumer price indices (CPIs) are used to calculate the value of the basket of non-food products and services.
