Čirgić: Today's official Montenegro is a servant of the Chetnik ideology

Impressive is the fact that our students and graduates have written several texts, columns and appeals about the problems in which our society finds itself, but all other Montenegrin academic community is silent.

Today's official Montenegro is a servant of the Chetnik ideology, which is carried out by the national chauvinists who are in power, said the dean of the Faculty of Montenegrin Language and Literature, Adnan Čirgić, at the opening of the Cetinje Philological Days.

“The department of Montenegrin education, science and culture is managed by a person who declares himself a Chetnik, a person who publicly wishes for the death of Latinka Perović, a person who publicly calls Boris Dežulović an Ustasha. The Montenegrin Prime Minister is delighted with the character and work of the bishop who called Montenegrins bastards from Broz Jajce (“balls), Montenegro a cup-state, the Montenegrin church an autocefal one, and the Montenegrin language non-existent. In such social circumstances, when the majority of the intellectual public is silent in fear of retaliation from clerical nationalists, when the position of neither the University of Montenegro nor the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts is heard, a good part of the professors of the Faculty of Montenegrin Language and Literature have accepted moral obligations. on the plague of our society”, pointed out Čirgić.

According to him, the fact that our students and graduates have written more texts, columns and appeals about the problems in which our society finds itself than all other Montenegrin academic communities is impressive.

The price of that engagement, he adds, is stigmatization, media chase, threats, criminal charges and similar actions by those who hold the levers of power.

“Due to such engagement, the Faculty was exposed to a financial blockade and a dirty propaganda lynching in order to finally shut it down. But thanks primarily to the broad civic support, first of all the citizens of Cetinje, and then other citizens of Montenegro, the Faculty still survives and today has the opportunity to host and organize this symposium. I would like to be able to list the names of all those who helped us survive, either by public protest or otherwise. That is the least I could do,” he said, among other things.

Čirgić emphasized that the Faculty of Montenegrin Language and Literature is the youngest scientific institution in Montenegro, and that the conditions in which the Faculty of Montenegrin Language and Literature exists today are the most difficult not only since its founding but also since the time when modern Montenegrin studies began to establish.

“In just 11 years, since its inception, this institution has managed to organize about 20 symposia and round tables, imposed itself with over 200 editions as the most important Montenegrin publisher in the field of humanities, managed to implement major projects that tackled various parasitic in vain. scientific institutions in Montenegro, among which I would like to emphasize the History of Montenegrin Literature, and since the last Philological Days we have finalized another major project whose publication – I hope – we will promote at the next symposium, the bibliography Montenegrin language, which contains over ten thousand unit. However, it seems to me that the results of the work are becoming visible and that the awareness of the Montenegrin language, as one of the four languages of the Štokavian system, is penetrating the Slavic world as well”, said Čirgić.
