Popovic: The opposition should react more sharply, the resistance to fascism must be stronger and louder

Popovic pointed out that it is necessary for the international community, as he said, to react very decisively to the constant attacks from Serbia, as well as to the growth of obvious chauvinism and clerical fascism in Montenegro. According to him, citizens, especially national Montenegrins who are denied the right to exist, suffer unprecedented humiliation every day.

Today's opposition, especially President Milo Djukanovic, must point out much sharper, more resolutely all illegal, illegal and hostile attacks from Belgrade against independent, sovereign Montenegro to all international organizations, from the UN, through the EU and NATO, which is not only a defense but also a political organization. Unless there is a much stronger and louder resistance to fascism from within, the international community will not react – Milorad Popović, a writer and publicist, assessed Pobjeda.

Commenting on Serbia's direct interference in the internal affairs of our country and the messages that Serbian officials constantly send to Montenegro, especially after the adoption of the Resolution on the Srebrenica genocide, Popovic said that it was “an unprecedented brutal escalation towards internationally recognized Montenegro, which is a NATO member and an EU candidate.”

– If we do not show that elementary human rights, individual and collective, are endangered here, we cannot expect the help of allies – said Popović.

A type of occupation

Popovic says Serbia and its officials are seeking the full loyalty of the Montenegrin government.

– They have said several times that the representatives of this government would not have come to power without the help of Serbia. That assistance was illegal, illegal and contrary to all international rules and relations between sovereign and internationally recognized states – said Popović.

He also assessed that this was a specific type of occupation, that is, an attempt to turn Montenegro into Orthodox Iran.

– This is best illustrated by the statement of the new patriarch Porphyry, who now shows the true face of an unscrupulous political agitator who says that the current government does not respect the will of Metropolitan Amfilohije, ignoring that Montenegro is a secular, civil state, that there are less than 30 percent national Serbs in Montenegro. He is acting as a guardian of the Islamic revolution in Iran, as a new Orthodox agitprop who wants to prescribe moral, political, cultural, ideological and national moves and programs within Montenegro that should guide politicians in Montenegro – said Popovic.

He also reminded of the recent events in the Cetinje Monastery.

– The other day, it happened that it was discovered that a public toilet was being built in the Cetinje monastery in the area of Njegoš's printing house. This in itself, perhaps better than anything, symbolically manifests all the background, intention and spiritual habitus of the slogan Let's not give up the sacred and the prayer of the revolution – Popović added.

Reactions of Serbia

Messages from Serbia at the expense of Montenegro have not abated, especially since the Montenegrin parliament adopted the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić spoke about our country yesterday, saying that “everything they did was turned against the vital interests of Serbia.”

– Their house is far from beautiful, let them do their job however they want. What interests me is to tell our people in the region that they should raise their heads, and that they should not be affected by the fact that someone intended to brand them – said Vučić.

The President of the Assembly of Serbia, Ivica Dačić, called on the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Joanikije, to get involved in resolving the political crisis in Montenegro. Dacic, as a guest on TV Pink, said that the adoption of the Resolution on Srebrenica in the Montenegrin Parliament was directed directly against Serbia and Republika Srpska, and that it was done due to strong pressure from abroad.

The Montenegrin government also received criticism yesterday from the Serbian patriarch Porfirije, who told them that they had betrayed the trust of Amfilohije and put themselves in the service of the forces of this world that exist exclusively and only on polarizations. In a sermon at the Church of the Holy Trinity in Sremčica, he said that recent events in Montenegro have shown that “those who are on the wings and in the strength of Metropolitan Amfilohije came to the place to build bridges, blunt blades, bring people closer, regardless of who they belong to the people and in what way they pray to God, they have betrayed the trust of the metropolitan”.

Democrats: Away from Montenegro

The Democrats responded to Dacic, telling him that “with such an attitude and such anti-brotherly intentions, keep your hands off Montenegro.”

– In a not at all friendly, or at least diplomatically expected neutral tone that strives for objectivity, Dacic expresses several bizarre untruths and substitutions of theses that can by no means be perceived as a constructive approach in relations between the two – by all accounts – closest states. Thus, Mr. Dacic is repeating the already thoroughly broken lie that the Resolution was adopted a few days ago in the Parliament of Montenegro, in fact a political attack on Serbia and the Republika Srpska, as well as the Serbian people as a whole. It is easy to guess why Dacic is doing this, but we are telling him that he can be sure that neither he nor anyone else will succeed. In particular, the attempt to share the lies of the citizens of Montenegro with lies and without any existing reason will not pass – it is stated in the reaction of the Democrats.

They point out that Dacic unprofessionally forgot the Declaration adopted eleven years ago by the High House, which he chairs today, and which was signed by the then Speaker of the National Assembly, his party colleague Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic.

Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic said that “everyone, especially officials from Belgrade who have been dealing with Montenegro a lot lately, should be clear that it is an independent state, which decides its own destiny and does not accept humiliation.” He told Vijesti that, regardless of some disagreements, harsh words or nervousness, he is sure that all representatives of the parliamentary majority will not gamble on the historical upheaval that happened last August, when, as he says, the democratic wheel was first started.

DPS: Meaningful message

The DPS also reacted, telling Dacic that he understood what should be done – to address Joanikije.

– Truly the most meaningful message sent by the Belgrade authorities lately. Because, the local government is not led by the Prime Minister or his ministers – but by the Serbian Orthodox Church. The organization, which has expanded its activities from “refreshment” to film screenings, is certainly the last chance for this unprofessional, worst government in the history of Montenegro to last. After all, the Serbian Orthodox Church compiled this joke from the executive power, whose constituents – instead of in the places provided for that – negotiated in monasteries with priests – said the member of the executive board of the DPS, Andrija Radman.

SDP: Reduce the experience

The SDP assessed that Dacic's appeal for Joanikije to resolve the crisis of power in Montenegro only confirms that the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro is an institution of the state of Serbia and that Serbia and its state leadership are arrogantly interfering in the internal affairs of sovereign Montenegro. SDP Secretary General Ivan Vujović believes that Vučić and Dačić “think that this is 1991 or 1999 when they intended to destroy Montenegro's civil peace and stability by inciting them from outside.” The SDP tells them to “reduce the experience and not to think that they can light fires in Montenegro, because they will break their teeth as always.”

– And let them not adopt Montenegrin Serbs because they are our brothers, relatives and friends, who, like all citizens of this country, are on their own in Montenegro – said Vujović.

Joanikije: Take care of the interest of the people, not personal and party interests

The Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Joanikije, called on those in power, as he said, to get rid of excess passion, hatred and condemnation and, as responsible people, to take care of the interest of the people, and not the personal interest of their parties.

Joanikije served the Holy Hierarch's Liturgy in the monastery of the Holy Trinity Stanjevići yesterday, where he commented on the recent adoption of the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica. He said that “our mutual problems” in Montenegro would not be solved either from Brussels or from Washington, and he wondered when the Resolution on Srebrenica had already been adopted, “where is Jasenovac, Jadovno, Velika.”

– When was the government and when did the deputies in Montenegro mention the crime in Velica? It's almost here – stated Joanikije, it was published on the MCP website.

He allegedly asked where the authorities were to condemn those crimes, to pay their respects to the victims. Joanikije said that “the previous government suppressed these sufferings, but it remained in the people's memory.”

– Those who boast that they are anti-fascists, have never condemned the fascist crimes of genocidal SS divisions – said Joanikije.

– The Metropolitan called on everyone to pray together on this holy day for everyone, and most of all for reconciliation and for God to understand those who lead Montenegro today, to sit and talk as people and find the best solution that suits the people and the whole of Montenegro – listed on the MCP website.

Izetbegović: Montenegrins showed courage

The leader of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), Bakir Izetbegović, stated that the Resolution of the Parliament of Montenegro, which condemns the genocide in Srebrenica and prohibits its denial, is a big step towards accepting the truth about the events of the 1990s.

He assessed that this is the basis for continuing to establish trust and build better relations between the states and peoples in the Balkans.

– Unfortunately, the nervous reactions coming from Serbia show that there is still no readiness on that side for that kind of confrontation with the truth. This is best evidenced by the reaction of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, who complains to Montenegro that he is “interfering in the issue of Srebrenica” and wonders “what does Srebrenica have to do with Montenegro” – said the SDA leader.

Montenegrins and Montenegro, he explains, as well as all nations and states that belong to the civilized and democratic world, should certainly “interfere in the issue of Srebrenica.”

– Any crime committed against innocent people, and especially genocide, concerns every just and truthful man in the world, every nation and every state – said Izetbegović.

And he says that numerous resolutions around the world, from America and Australia, to Asia and Europe, which condemned the genocide of Bosniaks in Srebrenica, testify to that.

– Montenegro in particular has something to say about the genocide committed in Srebrenica, because the policy of (Slobodan) Milosevic's regime was involved in the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina and the evil that was committed throughout the Balkans – Izetbegovic emphasized.

Montenegrins in the Parliament of Montenegro, he says, with a Srebrenica flower on their lapels, have shown that they live in courage and truthfulness, which “they call in one word – chivalry”.

-That chivalry means to look behind you, look in the mirror and admit that you have made a mistake and a sin. With this attitude, Montenegrins, like the largest European nations, have shown that they are ready to reject historical misconceptions and to build future relations with their environment on the foundations of the truth, no matter how bitter it once was – he said.
