MEP Ilčić: Serbia tried to destabilize Montenegro by riots in Cetinje

The riots, in which police used force against angry citizens, are the latest in a series of events organized by Serbia to destabilize Montenegro, a young country that is a member of the Council of Europe and NATO, as well as an EU candidate. Let's not forget that Serbia, with the help of Russia, was - according to the evidence and court rulings of the Montenegrin authorities - behind the attempted violent coup in 2016 - said the Croatian politician.

The Member of the European Parliament and President of the OAK party – Movement for a Successful Croatia – Ladislav Ilcic assessed that the stability in Montenegro has been shaken, and for that, as he claims, Serbia is responsible, which, as he says, once again tried to destabilize Montenegro.

Ilcic therefore asks the European Commission what Brussels intends to do to stabilize the situation in Montenegro.

– Last week, stability in Montenegro, one of the EU's immediate neighbors, was shaken by widespread unrest and protests. Montenegrin authorities, although aware that the act would provoke public outrage, allowed the enthronement ceremony of the new metropolitan or head of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SOC) to take place in Cetinje, a city that symbolizes Montenegrin statehood and religious independence – Ilcic said in a question submitted Commission.

The MEP also claims that the riots in Cetinje were organized by Serbia, all with the goal of destabilizing the country.

This time, Ilcic claims, Serbia, in order to achieve great state aspirations, armed the Serbian Orthodox Church, “inciting tensions and denying a significant part of the Montenegrin Orthodox people the right to their church, even though it existed in the past.”

– The notion of the “Serbian world” or, better said, the plan by which Serbia intends to impose its destructive agenda on neighboring countries, especially those with a Serbian minority, is geopolitically an extension of the so-called “Russian world”, where Serbia implements Moscow's plans and seeks to reduce influence. The EU and NATO in this part of Europe – stated Ilčić.
