CI May 21: With dramatic pest government, Montenegro sinks deeper into economic and social crisis

The government that has not been able to pass a budget for half a year and which is not able to move even a millimeter in European integration is dramatically harmful, according to the CI May 21.

Since the parliamentary majority formed the new government, Montenegro has been sinking deeper and deeper into the economic and social crisis, reports the Civic Initiative May 21.

“The lavish incompetence of the new government has led to an unemployment rate of over 22% and a drop in gross domestic product in the first quarter of this year of over 6%. At the same time, the decline in foreign investment and the growing disappointment of foreign investors are further dragging our country into the economic abyss, while the government's expectations from the tourist season are pretentious and unrealistic. The absence of a minimal gift for stimulating the entrepreneurial economy in any economic sector testifies to the most incompetent multi-party government that Montenegro has had,” the statement reads.

They say that “a government that has not been able to pass a budget for half a year and which is not able to move even a millimeter in European integration is dramatically harmful.”

According to them, this Government is not even able to launch projects that are not subject to public procurement procedures or prior adoption of the budget, such as projects directly financed by Brussels and implemented in accordance with EU rules.

“An example is the construction of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases and Dermatovenerology in the amount of over 8 million euros, where the project documentation was prepared last year from EU funds. In addition to this frozen project, more than 10m euros from IPA funds are also currently being seized. While the economy is crying out for financial resources and society is socially collapsing, the so-called expert government is drowning in dilettantism and disorientation.

So that the charitable combinations that the Government expects from Brussels and forced European banks in connection with servicing the public debt remain in the grip of a distorted state policy”, concludes the CI statement on May 21, signed by the President of the Council Miodrag Zivkovic and coordinator Rade Bojović.
