Bureau data: 10,599 more unemployed than in 2020

The corona virus pandemic, they say, has certainly caused an increase in the number of unemployed

There are currently 53,795 unemployed in the records of the Employment Bureau of Montenegro (ZZZCG), about 10 and a half thousand more than on this day last year, said Milutin Vučinić from the Bureau in the TVCG show Mreža.me.

According to Vučinić, the ZZZCG Unemployment Register shows that 59.92 percent of the total number of unemployed are women.

“Compared to the comparable period from 2020, we have an increase of 10,599 people,” said Vucinic.

The corona virus pandemic, he says, has certainly caused an increase in the number of unemployed.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have a monthly average of 3,400 people registered with the ZZZCG, which is an increase of about 47.8 percent compared to the monthly average from 2019. So we can conclude that the corona certainly influenced the increase in the unemployment rate and the inflow in the records of ZZZCG”, stated Vučinić.

He said that we also have 20,000 people whose employment was terminated in that period.

“Most people came to the unemployment register from the following activities: trade, education, services and accommodation and food services,” said Vucinic, adding that, in addition to the covid19, government support measures also required a certain number of people to register as unemployed.

“A certain number of people who may not have been actively looking for a job to come to the ZZZCG records, precisely because of these some stimulating benefits, such as financial compensation, which has been shared on several occasions. That must have happened,” Vucinic said.

As he points out, the increase in the number of unemployed is also affected by the applications of higher education students, due to the Vocational Training Program.

In the qualification structure, most of the unemployed are with the third, fourth and fifth level of education, and they make up 50.76 percent of the unemployed.

As Vucinic said, university students make up 12.85 percent of the unemployed. Among those younger than 30, about 20 percent are unemployed, 30 to 50 are about 48 percent, while the rest of the unemployed are older than 50.

“Those who have been waiting for a job for more than a year are 56 percent,” Vucinic said.
